film submission

2006 submissions now open

Films need to be:
- 10 min or under (clearly marked - with title/name/length/contact name and number)
- On MiniDV or DVCam (PAL) only
- Any genre – Documentary/ Drama/ Animation/ Comedy/ Music/Experimental/Other

How it works

exptv regularly puts together programme showreels to showcase films, particularly our members’. We trialled this in 2005 with a successful broadcast on Sky and a major screening event in London, and we’ll be rolling out a new series of programmes during 2006.

Submission is open to all however, has to be said, aspiring to be a filmmaker cooperative and all – if you’re a member, and all other things being equal, chances are we’ll promote your film above the rest. So go on, join … you’ll be able to access production support and automatically receive exptv news, and even if you don’t live in London, there are ways of getting involved – and we would appreciate your support.

If you are not a member, we will still take your film seriously – above all else, we’re looking to provide seriously good programming. If you think your film deserves to be seen by a wider audience – send it in. There is no charge for film submission.

exptv is a not-for-profit initiative. Any money that comes from showing exptv programmes (e.g. on door of screenings) goes back into exptv to enable us to provide filmmaker support and develop more screening/ broadcast opportunities.

What to do next

Complete the film submission form, sign it and send it along with your film. You need to complete a separate form for each film you submit. If you are not a member, and want to join, you can do this on the same form. exptv respects your privacy.

The basic agreement

By submitting your film you are providing exptv with non-exclusive rights to use it free-of-charge for an initial period of 1 year (the agreement will continue after that, but can be cancelled on three months written notice) - the submission form contains a licence agreement with full details, please read it carefully. By signing this, you are confirming that you own the distribution rights and all relevant permissions and clearances are in place – including music, script, actor, and location release forms; these may be requested at any time.

At present, due to capacity, we can only accept films on mini-DV or mini DV Cam. We cannot preview films on other formats. We are sorry but we cannot return tapes.

Any film not accompanied by a fully completed and signed form will not be reviewed. Every film submitted by members will be reviewed, however exptv is under no obligation to screen or broadcast every film.

Note that some film festivals specify that your film must not have been screened/ broadcast elsewhere in the UK – check this out if you think it might apply to you.

We will do our utmost to notify in advance all those who have their films screened/ broadcast, and a list of members’ films broadcast/ screened will be available on the website. Make sure you tell us about changes to your contact details, especially email.

collaborators

Ideas for new collaborations are always welcome. If you’re interested – or think exptv members would be interested in you – please get in touch.

The Film & Video Workshop
exptv kicked off broadcasting and events in early 2005 thanks to the initiative and generous support of The Film & Video Workshop. Based in Camden, the Workshop provides a range of excellent courses – some paid courses, (e.g. After Effects and FCP), targeted at more experienced filmmakers and many free, basic courses for the local community. They also run the London International Animation Festival and Wood Green International Short Film Festival.

Shoot and Slice - the original and still going strong
Shoot and Slice founded the first regular short film and music video screenings in London. From its humble beginnings to the present day Shoot and Slice have always been at the forefront of innovation. Starting with its legendary short film nights, Shoot and Slice took an exciting change of direction and moved to include music promo based events. These feature the latest and best in music promos and short films, with most of the films and videos having their world premiere at the event, as well as the coolest bands playing live. The events are also a great place to network, share interests and generally have a great night out.

From early 2006 exptv will be collaborating with Shoot and Slice on our live events. Shoot and Slice also designed and built the exptv site.

about exptv

exptv is run by filmmakers for filmmakers, coming together on a voluntary, cooperative basis – working out what support we need to get our films made and seen - and then providing it.

We kicked off broadcasting and and screening members’ films in early 2005 thanks to the initiative and generous support of The Film & Video Workshop in Camden, London. Since then exptv has steadily grown, and during 2006, may formalise and become an independent organisation in order to expand its services to members.

How are we different? Maybe we’re not, but we’re definitely not looking to duplicate initiatives already out there, we’re looking to collaborate. If you’re interested in what we do – get in touch.

Membership:
- is open to all age 16 and over
- entitles you to access production support (available subject to demand/ competition) and have a say in what services/ courses/ training are offered, in other words to encourage exptv provide you with the training you need, at a price you can afford, and
- registers you to automatically receive exptv news (email only)

At the moment, and for a limited introductory period – a year’s membership costs just £10! As exptv formalises over the next year, more members will be able to have a greater say in how it is run and the activities and support it provides. Chances are they’ll up the membership fee - so get in there now …

Become a member –sign- up here

get involved - our plans for 2006

Over the next 6 months, we’ll be holding a 2nd exptv screening in London, offering members editing facilities and kit hire at no charge, negotiating new exptv broadcast slots on behalf of our members and generally finding out what it is you’d like to see exptv do for you. To do all this – we need your help.

While we’re based in London – there are a variety of tasks that can be done remotely. If you’re a member, want to get more involved in exptv and help run events and member services, or have skills or ideas that we may be interested in – database development, editing, producing a short, cutting edge promo for our broadcast/ screening tapes, or maybe organising a screening of exptv programmes elsewhere in the country, to name a few, please get in touch letting us know your thoughts, and what skills you might be able to offer. If you’re in London – come by and meet us on Sunday afternoons.
